Repairs Continue at Northeast Dubois Intermediate

Dubois- Work is continuing on Northeast Dubois Intermediate’s repairs.
The school suffered severe flooding in August of 2021 that caused damage to several parts of the building, including the gym and kitchen.
The first part being done is site work, which involves moving dirt to help prevent future flooding, said NDI Principal Ryan Case. Once that work is complete, contractors will move forward with work on the gym floor. New doors have already been installed on the cafeteria and hallways.
The floor will be fully removed and replaced with new wood. Also coming is retractable basketball goals as well. The Cafeteria will be receiving new kitchen equipment later on.
Though the flooding caused problems for students and staff at Northeast Dubois Intermediate, Principal Case gave high praise to the students for their willingness to adapt to the situation.
“Our kids, you couldn’t ask for better,” said Principal Case, “From day one eating in our Jeep lounge, classrooms, or outside on the picnic tables, our kids have been resilient.”
The school did flood a second time, nearly one year after the initial flooding, on Labor Day 2022. There was standing water but no other damage was caused by that flooding. There have been no other major issues in 2023 despite recent rain totals causing flooding elsewhere in the county.
