Register now for Patoka Lake Clean Up Day, Sept. 28

The Patoka Lake Watershed Steering Committee will host its annual Patoka Lake Clean Up Day on Saturday, Sept. 28, in conjunction with National Public Lands Day. The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Patoka Lake Corps of Engineers office, 4512 N. Cuzco Road in Dubois.

Participants of all ages and abilities can sign up on location and will be assigned an area on which to pick up trash and items for recycling. At 11 a.m., all volunteers can return to the dam for a free fish fry, door prizes, and goodie bags. All the supplies needed for the cleanup will be provided. Volunteers must wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and long pants.

Since 2008, the cleanup day has hosted 1,900 volunteers who have collected more than 22.3 tons of trash from in or around Patoka Lake.

Service and youth groups are asked to register in advance by contacting the Patoka Lake Nature Center at 812-338-5589 ext. 3.
