Redevelopment Commission Hears Updates on Jasper Municipal Pool Project
The Jasper Redevelopment Commission’s meeting on Tuesday morning provided new updates
on the municipal pool project’s progress.
A claim from Hafer Associates for approximately $9500 was approved by the Commission for
services related to the construction of Jasper’s new outdoor pool. The total contract with Hafer
is for $469,000 with $12,000 in reimbursable expenses. So far, just under $400,000 has been
utilized. The Commission heard that Hafer anticipates needing to use the full contract amount,
and has asked for addendum to be added for services provided for a land survey, so the total is
expected to increase.
In addition, an additional project related to the tree line between the pool and National Guard
is expected to be introduced in the fall. The tree line currently includes some evergreens,
cottonwoods, and walnut trees, which shed heavily into the pool during the fall. The
Commission was informed that a recommendation has been made to remove the tree line,
regrade the land, and replace the trees with Arborvitae and Norway Spruce. Originally, the
project was designed to build only on city property, and the tree line is shared by both
properties. As permission could not be obtained from the National Guard for the additional tree
line project in time to proceed on schedule with construction, the contractors had to move
forward. The additional project is expected to be addressed in the fall under a separate
contract.
An update was also provided on the pool’s construction. The pool’s south wall has been
poured, and the deep end has been dug. The project is on schedule, and the pool is anticipated
to take shape quickly over the next couple of weeks.
In other business, the Commission also approved a claim for just over $20,000 to Baker Tilly for
services rendered for the 2024 TIF guidelines presentation, travel expenses, and guidance on
the new TIF guidelines established by the state.
