Primary Election Day: Kippenbrock on Changes, Early Returns

By Kris Norton

Dubois Co.
- The day has come for residents of Dubois County, and the state of Indiana, to cast their ballots in the 2022 Primary Election cycle.

Local, state, and national races have contested fields in both Indiana and Ohio.

As some of the names on the ballots have changed since the last election cycle, so too have a number of locations says Dubois County Clerk Amy Kippenbrock.

"In Ferdinand, on Election Day in the past we've voted at the Event Center, and we've moved over to the YMCA," Kippenbrock said. "So, just one parking lot over."

Dubois has also seen a change in location.

"In Dubois, we previously were at the Middle School and we've moved down the road to the Dubois Ruritan new Parks Building," Kippenbrock said. "That's a great facility and it's easy to get in and out of too."

In Jasper, two former locations have transitioned to a singular location.

"We previously were at the Habig Center and at the National Guard Armory, and those locations are not open today," Kippenbrock. "But, we are open at the [Thyen-Clark] Cultural Center, or some people know it as the new library."

The remaining six voting locations within Dubois County remain unchanged.

While residents have become accustomed to being assigned locations to vote in the past, Kippenbrock says the new Vote Center County model will allow more flexibility and ease.

"I think that It'll make it easier for those that were looking for some new convenience," Kippenbrock said. "If you live in one part of the county and you work or are in another part of the county for whatever reason, you can just pop into any of those open polling sites."

According to Kippenbrock on Tuesday morning, early voting had been slow. But, she says, that should make it easier to cast a ballot this afternoon in a number of contested ballots.

"I am excited that there is a contested ballot for every voter in Dubois County, so I think people should be excited to go vote," Kippenbrock said. "But, I'm hoping that they'll come later this afternoon, for sure."

Ballots close statewide at 6:00 p.m. Kippenbrock expects the early voting totals to be release shortly after.

Election officials hope to have the final votes tallied and published by 7:30 p.m. eastern time.
