Popular Spring Events Return to Huntingburg
On Thursday morning, Huntingburg’s Board of Public works approved a special event permit
application for the Kiwanis Car Show. This is the 27 th year that the Huntingburg Kiwanis Club is
sponsoring the car show. It will be returning to 4 th Street for the event on April 26 th from 7 am-3
pm. There will be a temporary closure of 4 th Street from Main Street East to Van Buren, and the
city office building parking lot will be used for overflow.
The Huntingburg Merchants Association’s special event permit application for the annual
Daffodil Stroll was also approved. The event will be held on Friday, April 4, from 10-7 pm, and
Saturday, April 5, from 10-6 pm. 4 th Street will be closed from Jackson to the 431, and also from
Geiger to 231 on the other side of 4th Street.
The Market Street Park grass area will be used for an egg hunt sponsored by Destination
Huntingburg. At the back porch of Old Town Hall, there will be an Easter story and outdoor
fashion show. The Bunny Stroll is Saturday morning, where kids will be led down 4 th Street by
the Easter Bunny himself to get some sweet treats. Igloos will be set up on the street to collect
goodies from participating merchants. There will also be street vendors and live musicians.
Street Superintendent Jason Stamm told the board that the Northside parking lot is almost
finished. It has been crack sealed and permanent parking blocks have been installed. Parking
stall lines will be added as soon as materials are secured. Stamm also gave an update on
Medical Arts Drive, where the hill goes north off of 19 th Street. For about a year, water has been
encroaching from the hill and damaging the asphalt. The Street Department is working to
redirect the water and will be making more permanent repairs this spring.
Police Chief Brad Kramer reported that the police and fire departments have both launched a
new mental health and wellness app. Safety Director Andrea Brown reported that the CPR
classes and certification for city staff were completed. Fire Chief Heim ran the training and
provided valuable real-world scenarios.
The board discussed some eminent repairs that will be needed for the city office building. As a
result of roof damage, water has been encroaching significantly into the building. Multiple
locations in the building will now require substantial drywall work as a result. The board agreed
to send out for bids for roof repair, overlay, and replacement options.
