Police Warning Residents About Another Phone Scam Going Around the Area
FROM LOCAL SOURCES
DAVIESS COUNTY -- The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a new phone scam going around.
The scammer calls and tells the victim that a family member has been taken to jail, and says they need money to get them released.
Some area residents have been instructed to get a pre-paid credit card or send money through Western Union. In some cases, the scammer offers to go to your house to pick up the cash. Some of the scammers have even resorted to posing as the jailed family member, crying and begging for the victim’s help.
The Sheriff’s Office says this is a scam. No law enforcement agency in this region works that way.
Police say, if you don’t recognize a phone number on your caller ID, let it go to voicemail.
