JASPER -- A Birdseye man led police on a chase that ended in Jasper Thursday morning.
It all started at Perry County Memorial Clinic in Bristow just before 11 a.m. Police say the man was being treated for injuries when he became combative; possibly suicidal.
He fled the clinic and took off at a high rate of speed toward Dubois County. Police caught up with the man near CR 700 S and SR 162 just north of Ferdinand and refused to stop.
The chase ended on 3rd Avenue near VUJC when the driver made an abrupt stop, exited the vehicle, and began stabbing himself with a metal wire.
Police believe the man was under the influence of an unknown narcotic or drug at the time.
He was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital.
Police have released the man’s name, however, we are not reporting it for two reasons. One, the man may have been suicidal. Secondly, no charges have been filed yet.
