Photo Contest Winners Announced by Dubois County Museum
The Dubois County Museum is pleased to announce the winners of the First Annual Photo Contest held
at the museum in May.
Winners of the People’s Choice Awards selected by the public were 1 st Place Adult Division:
Photographer Ordie Day, Jasper, with “Big Boy” Train, 2 nd : Tasia Baker, Jasper, with “Glade Creek Falls”
and 3 rd : James M. Patterson, Jasper, with “Hitchhiker”. First place Teen Division: Photographer Danika
Kiefer, Velpen, with “Feeding Time”, 2 nd : Jocilynn Dayhoff, Birdseye, with “Bubble Bunch” and Children
Division: 1 st place: Madison Kieser, Jasper, with “Horses at Sunset”
Winners of the contest judged by Professional Photographers were: Adult Division Photographer Ordie
Day, Jasper, with “Country Crossing”, 2 nd : Bryan Freson, Jasper, with “Spirit of Jasper”, 3 rd : Ordie Day,
Jasper, with “Big Boy” Train. First place in Teen Division: Photographer Katie Hasselbring, Jasper, with
“Marengo Mirror”, 2 nd : Danika Kiefer, Velpen, with “Feeding Time”. Children Division: 1 st : Brandon
Kieser, Jasper, with “Flowers at Dusk”. The Judges also chose several photos for Honorable Mention
recognition. Being recognized were: Dorothy Hendrix, Huntingburg, with “Butterfly on Window Glass”
and “Seattle, WA”, Joan Miley, Jasper, “Sunrise” and with “Sunset”, Tasia Baker, Jasper, with “Glade
Creek Falls”, Bryan Freson, Jasper, with “Train Station”, Bryan Freson, Jasper, with “Train Station”,
Tarren Langhorst, Jasper, with “Hello There”, Michelle Hedinger Smith, Jasper, with “Sunset and
Seagulls”, Kris Gutgsell, Birdseye, with “Barn at Sunset”, Barb Keusch, Jasper, with “Majestic” and
“Freezing Bubbles”, James M. Patterson, Jasper, with “Cleared for Takeoff” and “Hitchhiker”, Ann Nagy,
Jasper, with “Dandelion Wishes”, Dawn Conrad, Jasper, with “Jasper Chair Co.”, Ordie Day, Jasper, with
“Peaceful Reflections”, Erica Crouse, Jasper, with “Dragonfly” and Ann Buechler, Jasper, with “Sunflower
with Insect”. The professional photographer judges were Kia Kalb and B.C. Baggett.
With one hundred entries, from tranquil scenes, birds, flowers, photographic pets and animals, and
many other subjects, the contest had attracted a wide variety of subjects and a several entrees across
the age divisions.
Public voting for the People’s Choice Awards has been exciting. The public enjoyed pursuing the display
and choosing their favorites. Photos were displayed on several walls in the lobby and continued on to
the walls along the entrance ramp.
Photographers were asked to continue to display their photos the month of June till July 1 so that all can
see those recognized. Photos may be picked up at the museum beginning with July 1.
The Photo Contest will be an annual event, so start taking your photos for next year’s contest.
About the museum
The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m.-2:00pm, Saturday from 10:00
a.m.-4:00pm and Sunday 1:00-4:00pm. Closed on Monday.
Admission of $5 per adult, $3 for high school students, and $2 for middle and elementary
students is charged. Visitors four and under are free. Those holding a current Dubois County
Museum Membership are granted free admission.
The Dubois County Museum is a local nonprofit organization committed to the collection,
preservation and interpretation of historical artifacts and information important to the citizens
of the county. Museum operations are funded by annual memberships, admissions, donations
and gifts from visitors, area residents and businesses. It is operated entirely by volunteers. It is
