Paoli Woman convicted for 2020 Murder
Paoli- A woman called 9-1-1, and now she is convicted of murder.
On Tuesday, August 9th, Sabrina L. Dunn was found guilty of the 2020 killing of her ex-husband, Bill Dunn.
Authorities say Sabrina Dunn called 9-1-1 around 7:48 AM on Wednesday, October 21st, 2020 claiming she shot her ex-husband. Dunn claims she acted in self-defense, saying Bill Dunn had a knife.
Bill and Sabrina were divorced and lived in separate homes on the same property.
Officers with the Paoli Police Department and Indiana State Police investigated. Sergeant Brock Werne, Indiana State Police Jasper District, interviewed both Sabrina and her boyfriend who lived with her. The boyfriend, whose name has not been released, said he left for work around 6:15 that morning and received a call from Sabrina asking where his gun was in the home. SGT. Werne questioned him about the knife Sabrina claimed Bill had, and the boyfriend responded saying the knife was Sabrina’s and was in her home for the last few days, not Bill’s.
“A lot of our investigation had to do with the house when he entered. We never noticed a knife in his hand, only the flashlight in his left hand.” Said Sergeant Werne.
Investigators reviewed footage from security cameras Bill Dunn had on his property. They claim the footage shows Bill going to Sabrina’s home around 7:36 AM with a flashlight, but no knife.
The exact reasoning for why Bill was at Sabrina’s that morning is still unknown. Sergeant Werne says they believe Bill was looking for his keys.
“She did not say why he was coming over,” said Sergeant Werne, “It was believed in our investigation that Bill lost his keys. In the early morning hours, it appeared from watching his surveillance camera, he was looking for his keys and he also took a ride with her earlier in the morning. So it is our belief that he was going over to her house to knock and ask her if she has his keys.’
Twelve minutes later, Sabrina called 9-1-1 saying she shot Bill.
Based on the available evidence and investigation, charges of murder were filed a day later by Orange County Prosecutor Holly Hudelson.
Sergeant Werne said when asked about a possible motive, “She never admitted to why. Of course she said she shot him. During court more or less she said it was in self-defense. When video surveillance showed us otherwise.”
Persons convicted of felony murder can face anywhere from 45 to 65 years imprisonment. Sabrina Dunn’s sentencing hearing will be on September 12th in the Orange Circuit Court.
