JASPER -- 940 people received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Saturday in Jasper.

Those numbers coming to us today from the Dubois County Health Department.

I’ve been told demand for the vaccine has been so high in the county, some have had to wait weeks for an appointment.  Local health officials hope this past weekend’s event will help alleviate those issues.

To get an appointment, log on to ourshot.in.gov.

Currently, only residents 70 and older qualify to receive the vaccine, in addition to first responders and healthcare workers.

4,272 Dubois County residents have now received their first dose of the Moderna vaccine.  They still have to get a second dose to be considered “fully vaccinated.”  Just over a thousand residents in the county have received both doses.

Statewide, just over 100,000 Hoosiers are fully vaccinated. Nearly 441,000 people in the state have received their first dose.
