Officials Warn of Excessive Heat
Local Sources- Local officials have issued an excessive heat warning for the region.
Heat indexes could reach as high as 109° in the afternoons, which could lead to heat related illness. To help prevent becoming overheated, you should stay in an airconditioned room as much as possible and drink plenty of water. Wearing light colored, loose fit clothing will also help. Strenuous outdoor activities should be rescheduled to early mornings or late evenings. Those who work outside should be given frequent breaks in shaded or air conditioned areas.
Prolonged exposure to the heat can result in heat stroke and heat exhaustion. You can find the CDC guidelines for these and other heat related illnesses here. Anyone suffering from heat related illnesses should be moved to a cool, shaded area and should call 9-1-1.
The excessive heat warning is in effect until 11:00 PM est. Thursday.
