Next Steps After Cabin Fire at George Rogers Clark Home Site

The log cabin at the George Rogers Clark Home Site along the Ohio River was destroyed by fire on May 20.

The cabin, a representative reproduction, was located on a 7-acre site managed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources through Falls of the Ohio State Park.

The DNR’s response to the fire includes a multi-layered approach.

  • Falls of the Ohio State Park property staff will be working to plan and remove debris from the site, which remains closed to the public at this time.
  • The DNR Division of State Parks will be coordinating discussions related to future interpretation of the site.
  • Donations regarding this project can be made to the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation, 402 West Washington St., W256, Indianapolis, IN 46204, or at indiananrf.org/one-time-gift-form-designated. Selecting “Clark Home Site” at the bottom of the designation dropdown ensures 100% of your contribution will go toward the George Rogers Clark Home Site.

“As we begin work to recover the Clark Home Site, we thank Hoosiers and the people of the Louisville area and beyond for their tremendous outpouring of support,” said Indiana DNR Director Dan Bortner. “The DNR remains steadfastly committed to honoring and interpreting the long history of all people who lived, worked, and visited this location.

“We will be engaging a variety of partners and individuals to listen to their diverse perspectives as we plan for the best way to share the significance of this site with future generations.”
