New Reading Program Promotes Early Youth Literacy in Dubois County

Dubois Co. - The Jasper-Dubois County Public Library has announced the kickoff of a new reading program called, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.

Hundreds of libraries across the nation are using this program to promote reading & literacy to newborns, infants, and toddlers. The goal of the program is to read 1,000 books to your child before they enter kindergarten.

Participants will use the Beanstack app on their digital devices to track their reading. They will also receive a companion notebook that contains stickers and fun activities.

For every 100 books that are read & logged on the app, participants will come into the library to be recognized. Participating in this program can help develop a child’s school readiness, boost their vocabulary, & improve their cognitive development.

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program provides a simple, innovative, yet fun approach to establishing strong early literacy skills. To participate, register on the Beanstack app & visit your library (Jasper, Ferdinand, Dubois, or Birdseye) to pick up the companion notebook.
