New Information in Thursday's Alleged Discrimination Investigation at Oakland City University
From Student and Military Advocate Gary Love: The claimant actually filed two complaints, one for retaliation and the other for discrimination. The discrimination claim falls within the laws that the Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights enforces but, the second claim for retaliation does not. The retaliation claim is in the inquiry phase with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). An interview between the claimant and EEOC is scheduled for June 1, 2021. The outcome of the interview will determine the next steps of the retaliation claim.
The claimant was an employee and a student of Oakland City University. The claimant, on his own accord, resigned from employment on April 16, 2021. On April 23, 2021 the claimant was notified (by the university) of removal from the graduate studies. The graduate studies program was being funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veteran Readiness and Employment service. Since April 23, 2021, the claimant has been given conflicting reasons for his removal from the graduate degree program. For these reasons, claims of retaliation and discrimination have been filed.
The claimant is a 25 year military Veteran with one combat tour in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
