New Albany Man Arrested for Felony Intimidation Following Traffic Stop
New Albany- A New Albany man was arrested on felony intimidation charges and for pointing a firearm following an early morning traffic stop on Saturday.
Around 1:30 Saturday morning, Trooper Brandon Love stopped a white Hyundai passenger car in Jeffersonville for speeding and an equipment violation. The traffic stop occurred near Spring Street and Court Avenue in downtown Jeffersonville. When Trooper Love activated his emergency lights to pull the vehicle over, the driver stopped in the middle of the roadway instead of pulling to the side or into a nearby parking lot. The lights from Trooper Love's police car illuminated the inside of the Hyundai, and he observed three passengers in the car, including a back-seat passenger. Trooper Love then determined to approach the vehicle from the passenger side rather than a driver's side approach. As he approached, Trooper Love allegedly observed the rear-seat passenger pull a black pistol from his waist and point the gun in the direction of the rear driver's side door with his finger on the trigger. Trooper Love immediately drew his department weapon and ordered the passenger to drop the gun. The passenger, later identified as 24-year-old Royal Lamont-Navro Allen of New Albany, dropped the handgun in the rear seat, and Trooper Love called for backup. Royal Allen was taken into custody without further incident after assisting officers arrived.
During the ensuing investigation, officers learned the pistol had a fully loaded magazine as well as a round in the chamber. Officers also located suspected marijuana in the vehicle.
Royal Lamont-Navro Allen was transported to the Clark County Jail and is currently charged with two counts of Intimidation, a level 5 felony, and Pointing a Firearm, a level 6 Felony. He is also charged with Possession of Marijuana. He currently has a $25,000 cash-only bond.
Officers from the Jeffersonville Police Department and fellow Troopers assisted Trooper Love during the stop.
