National Park Service Seeks Tips from the Public on Theft of Historic Lampposts Covers
Vincennes – The National Park Service is investigating a widespread theft of panel covers
for historic bronze lampposts within the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park.
The
lampposts were installed in 1932 and surround the park grounds including the George Rogers
Clark Memorial.
Panels were removed from 22 lamp posts and another four had the screws loosened in
preparation for removal.
The panel covers are 14” by 11” at their widest point and weigh
approximately 9 pounds each.
If anyone has information related to the removal or possession of
these historic items, please contact the park at 812-882-1776 or email [email protected].
The
most minor details such as seeing someone tampering with the lamppost or noticing when they
were missing can help the park establish a timeline. Tips will be kept anonymous.
