Messmer's bill requiring automotive training course signed by governor

A bill authored by State Sen. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) that requires a training course applicants for a used car dealer license must complete to sell used cars in Indiana was ceremonially signed into law today by Gov. Eric Holcomb.

Senate Enrolled Act 222 also requires the training course to provide information on automotive licensing requirements, laws and rules in Indiana.

"A reliable vehicle is needed to get to work, school and runs errands," Messmer said. "Making sure auto dealers know state rules ensures Hoosiers are buying a reliable vehicle they can trust."

The training course must be offered online, and a certificate of completion would be issued to each dealer.

The bill was the result of months of work between Sen. Messmer, the Indiana Secretary of State's office and the Indiana Independent Automobile Dealers Association.
