MEMORIAL HOSPITAL: "Most Scarce Resource" is Not ICU Beds, But Staff to Care For the Sick

JASPER -- Nearly 20% of our district’s ICU beds are currently available, according to the latest numbers from the state.

District 10 includes Dubois County and points west through the Evansville area.

I reached out to Memorial Hospital to see how they were doing specifically.

A hospital spokesperson sent the following statement....

“Memorial Hospital ICU beds and telemetry beds are combined on one unit.  As of this morning, we had approximately one-third of these beds open for both telemetry and ICU patients.  Like all area hospitals, we also have Covid-19 patients who do not require ICU-level care in our medical unit as well.  As is the case for many of the hospitals in District 10 as well as throughout Indiana, the most scarce resource is not bed availability but staff to care for patients.  We continue to monitor census and staff availability so that we can continue to meet the needs of all our patients and our communities we serve.”
