ISP-Jasper: Master Trooper Lytton Receives Commendation Award

Local Sources- On August 22, 2022, at approximately 1508 hours, Master Trooper Lytton, a 23-year veteran of the Indiana State Police, responded to a report of a male having a medical emergency in the water at the main lake in Christmas Lake Village, Santa Claus, Indiana.

Officer Logan Musgrave and Reserve Officer Keegan Kennedy, with the Santa Claus Police Department, arrived at the scene first with M/Trp. Lytton arriving soon after. M/Trp. Lytton was approached by a young male who advised that the 18-year-old victim was still in the water.

Master Trooper Lytton observed Officer Kennedy running into the water approaching the ropes that designated the start of deeper water. Master Trooper Lytton then witnessed Officer Musgrave running along the boat docks near the swimming area before diving into the water.

Master Trooper Lytton removed his gun belt and other articles, entered the water, and swam to Officer Kennedy's location. Officer Kennedy located the male victim, and Master Trooper Lytton met him at the deep-water ropes. Master Trooper Lytton grabbed the victim under the arms and carried him to the beach. Once on the beach, Officer Kennedy began chest compressions on the victim. A short time later, members of the Santa Clause Fire Department arrived and assisted Officer Kennedy with CPR. The victim was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital and ultimately transferred to the University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition.

Master Trooper Lytton's actions and dedication to duty are in keeping with the finest traditions of law enforcement and reflect great credit upon himself and the Indiana State Police.
