Major House Explosion in Dubois County
The explosion was reported to have been heard from 10 to 15 miles away and had debris thrown off the house a half of mile. Debris was all over hundreds of yards around the property and even lading in the road. Dubois County Sheriff Officer Kleinhelter stated that "the call came in around 6:20pm. The house has been totally leveled and destroyed and at this point in time we believe there to be one male missing".
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that a body was inside the home at the time of explosion and has been found. At this time officials have not released a name.
Sheriff Kleinhelter said "there was some damage to some neighboring houses in the area, but there are no other homes in the area in danger". Officer Kleinhelter described the scene as "one of the worst situations I have seen as an officer, truly a tragic event".
Indiana State Fire Marshall has been called to the scene where they have taken over the lead role in trying to find a cause on the explosion. Officers are still on the scene and will be there most of Tuesday afternoon.
Dubois County Sheriff's Office, Indiana State Police and Lost River Township Fire Department all responded and were on the scene of the incident.
