JPD makes reckless driving arrest
ON 9/29/2024, THE JASPER POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVED A RECKLESS
DRIVING COMPLAINT IN REFERENCE TO A VEHICLE MAKING BAD PASSES AND SPEEDING. OFFICERS LATER MADE
VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE SUSPECT VEHICLE ON SOUTH NEWTON TRAVELING 88 MPH IN A 35 MPH ZONE. AFTER
THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, THE DRIVER WAS IDENTIFIED AS ANDERSON AVELAR. WHILE OFFICERS WERE OUT WITH
AVELAR, HE WAS OBSERVED TO SHOW SIGNS OF IMPAIRMENT. A CHEMICAL TEST INDICATED THE PRESENCE OF
CANNABINOIDS AND A BLOOD ALCOHOL CONTENT OF .223% BAC. AVELAR WAS LODGE IN THE DUBOIS COUNTY
SECURITY CENTER WHERE HE WAS HOUSED FOR OWI OVER .15, OWI ENDANGERMENT, RECKLESS DRIVING,
CRIMINAL RECKLESSNESS, AND MINOR CONSUMPTION. THE JASPER POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS ASSISTED BY
DEPUTIES WITH THE DUBOIS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE.
