JPD: Chase ends with Suspect Crashing Vehicle
Jasper- The Jasper Police department was led on a chase Monday evening.
Officers report being dispatched to the Jasper Walmart for a theft report. According to a release, Walmart Asset Protection provided a description and name of the suspect. Police say they knew the suspect due to prior encounters and arrests.
JPD located the suspect in the Schnucks parking lot and attempted to make contact. The suspect would flee in his vehicle down Newton Street onto 37th street. The suspect would then cross through several backyards before coming out on 36th street before returning to Newton Street. As he approached the Culvers on Newton Street, the vehicle lost control and crashed into a city utility pole.
Police say he had to be extricated from the vehicle. Once freed from the car, the suspect was transported to the hospital for treatment.
JPD has not released the suspects name or any identifying information, pending family notification. Officials say he will face multiple criminal charges.
