Jasper Utilities Prepare for City’s Continued Growth
On Monday night, the Jasper Utility Board’s agenda showed a focus on project updates and
preparation for new initiatives.
In the manager's reports, the Board heard plans for 2025 as well as updates on current projects
throughout the city. A meeting held on December 10 presented the 2025 capital expenditure
plan for the Electric Department and the Wastewater Department. The 2025 capital
expenditure plan for the Gas and Water Departments were presented at a meeting on
December 11.
At the end of November, Water Department crews tied in a water main for the back-up water
supply project on Marywood Drive. The backup water supply project has been a focus for the
Water Department as part of the effort to support Jasper’s growing population. In addition,
updates were given on The Mill Street Water Main Replacement project where the City is
replacing the existing 4-inch watermain with an 8-inch watermain from 9th Street to 15th
Street. An invoice from Maguire was also approved for Water Tower maintenance.
Business Office updates included the City’s bad debt write-off, which removes debts that are
considered uncollectible from current accounting records. As part of the City’s collection
efforts, the TRECS Clearinghouse Letter Service will be utilized for a fee of $3 per letter. The
TRECS (Tax Refund Exchange and Compliance System) service allows the City to notify taxpayers
that potential tax refunds could be intercepted to pay outstanding debts, which reduces the
City’s overall unpaid debts that need to be written off.
In the General Manager’s Reports, updates were provided on the Landfill Solar project, the
Northside Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the Northwest Substation project. These projects
all aim to provide utility services for new housing developments as well as to support the City’s
overall growth.
