Jasper Senator Mike Braun Predicts Impeachment Will Get No GOP Support in the Senate
WASHINGTON--House Democrats have released articles of impeachment against President Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
Indiana Republican Senator Mike Braun tells 93 WIBC's Tony Katz impeachment has been the goal of Democrats ever since Trump was elected in 2016.
"From the moment he crossed the finish line, there was talk of impeachment even when they didn't have any idea of what their reason would be. That tainted the process from the get-go," Braun said.
Braun was asked by Katz if the impeachment articles would get much support from Republicans in the Senate.
"None whatsoever. Let's look at what's occurred. The Mueller Report was supposed to be the coup d'etat back then. It never worked. It was a flop. This was a calculated effort before time would run out. It's opinion and hearsay. President Trump, not to defend him 100%, is somewhat of a bull in a china shop. That's why he got elected in the first place. He's an outsider and a disrupter. That's hurt him a bit, but that doesn't mean you get impeached," Braun said.
He says the impeachment inquiry has been a disaster for Democrats.
Democrats say President Trump abused his power by withholding military funding from Ukraine and pressuring them to announce investigations of former Vice President Joe Biden and his family. They say it was an effort to damage Biden's 2020 presidential bid. Democrats also accuse the President of obstructing their oversight power by preventing key witnesses from testifying.
A vote on impeachment in the House of Representatives is expected by the end of the year.
