Jasper- The City of Jasper celebrated the opening of its first Hispanic Grocery Store Friday.

La Moroleon opened its doors with a ribbon cutting ceremony at their Mill Street Location. La Moroleon’s Margol Guzman shared their name comes from their hometown.

Inside, the store has more than just Hispanic products. American soda, milk and treats line the shelves along with the Hispanic commerce.

“This store can make a difference because we can offer better prices,” said Guzman at the ribbon cutting, “We can offer prices comparable to other stores.”

La Moroleon opened in what was once the old Herald Printing Building, which is owned by the Harder Family.

On Wednesday morning, Jasper Chamber of Commerce Director Nancy Eckerle joined WITZ’s Charlie Wayne to discuss the new store ahead of their ribbon cutting and the work the Harder’s are doing to fill the building.

“They’re (Harder’s) working really hard to fill those spots in there, and they are doing a good job,” said Eckerle.

La Moroleon, which can be found at 415 Mill Street, is open 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM seven days a week.
