Jasper Public Library to Close Current Location on December 9th
FROM LOCAL SOURCES
JASPER -- The Jasper Public Library will permanently close the current location (1116 Main St.) to the public on Wednesday, December 9 at 8:00 PM.
The contents of the current building will then begin to be moved to the new location at the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center (100 3rd Ave.). Patrons are encouraged to visit the library by December 9 to stock up on material to enjoy during the closure and holidays.
The Ferdinand and Dubois locations will also be closed on December 10 and 11 while server equipment for the entire system is moved. It is expected that the Ferdinand and Dubois libraries will reopen with normal operating hours on December 12.
All library drop boxes, including those at the current Jasper Library, will remain open. The libraries are fine-free and items checked out from Jasper Public Library will automatically be renewed on their due dates until the move is complete.
“We know that closing our doors for any amount of time is not ideal,” said Christine Golden, Library Director. “But this will enable the items to be moved in a safe and organized manner to the new facility. 2020 has been a challenging year for all, but we are excited to end it on a positive note as we start the move.”
While the Jasper Public Library is closed, the library is directing patrons to its other three locations in Ferdinand, Dubois, and Birdseye. Online resources will continue to be available as well. Please be aware that phone service could also see interruptions as well. Please continue to follow the library’s social media accounts and website for updated information. The website (www.jdcpl.us) also has a contact form if questions do arise.
This is the final phase of the library’s construction project in conjunction with the City of Jasper to open a state-of-the-art Thyen-Clark Cultural Center, which will be home to the Jasper Public Library and the Jasper Community Arts. An opening date for the Thyen-Clark Cultural has not been set but is expected to be in early January 2021.
