Jasper Police Department were dispatched to a single vehicle collision at the intersection of US 231 and Division Rd.
On 10/30/24, at approximately 3:55pm, Officers with the Jasper Police Department were
dispatched to a single vehicle collision at the intersection of US 231 and Division Rd.
Upon Officers’ arrival, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, which was a 2007 Toyota
Camry, was discovered to have severe injuries. The engine compartment of the vehicle was
also on fire.
Jasper Police Officers and Jasper First Responders removed the driver from the burning
vehicle and attempted life-saving measures on scene until Memorial Hospital EMS arrived.
They took over rendering care and transported the driver to Memorial Hospital. Jasper Fire
Department quickly extinguished the fire.
Upon investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was northbound on US 231 approaching
the intersection with Division Rd. For an unknown reason, the vehicle was travelling at a high
rate of speed on the northbound shoulder. The vehicle continued accelerating through the
intersection and veered to the right, where the vehicle collided with a utility pole on the
northeast corner of the intersection.
Unfortunately the driver, identified as Linda Lou Dalziel of Huntingburg, IN, succumbed to her
injuries at the hospital.
The Jasper Police Department was assisted on scene by the Jasper Volunteer Fire
Department, Memorial EMS, the Jasper Electric Department, Dubois County Sheriff's Office,
Dubois County Coroner, INDOT, and Uebelhor’s Towing Service.
The Jasper Police Department would also like to thank members of the public who put
themselves in harm’s way to attempt to save a life of a stranger.
