Jasper Parks Board Approves New Swimming Pool Plans

Jasper- The Jasper Parks Board is moving forward with plans for the city’s new outdoor swimming pool.

The approval was made at the Tuesday meeting, following a second hearing. The board will begin accepting bids for the project during the December meeting, and will offer a contract in the January 2024 meeting.

“We’re terribly excited,” said Tom Mooreman, Parks Board Director, “It’s a long time coming. We barely made it through the season last year. If we were not to put in a new pool next year, or start this process, I don’t believe we would’ve been able to open the pool.”

While the Board will wait and see what the bids are, they are hoping to keep the cost between 8 and 8.5 million dollars. Those funds will come through Tiff bonds and the redevelopment commission.

The new outdoor pool is separate from the planned Regional Wellness Center.

“These are two separate projects,” Mooreman emphasized, “I think the Mayor (Vonderheide) has said the whole time about the Regional Wellness Center, we will build what we can afford.”

The new pool is designed for all age groups, from toddlers to seniors.
