Jasper Parks and Recreation Prepares for an Eventful Summer
On Tuesday night, Jasper’s Park and Recreation Board prepared for a busy season ahead.
In the Habig Center Report, the board heard that all tax appointments are full as of 2 weeks
ago. Several Derby Days trips are coming up, and the Center is planning more trips. Exercise
classes and activities have been full, and catered meals have continued to be popular.
School tour group season is starting to fill calendar dates, and the Tourism Department is
preparing the Spirit of Jasper for warm weather. The board granted permission to solicit HVAC
quotes for a train car so that there will be working air conditioning in the car by summer. There
will be a ride for Easter, and the official season kicks off in June.
In his Parks update, Director Tom Moorman told the board that the new Ruxer playground was
installed in the snow, and the team is working on getting the borders completed. Crews have
been busy with updates to prepare for visitors, repairing and replacing equipment and
addressing weather-related items like sinkholes. In addition, they have assembled countless
pool items, including over 100 chairs.
In his Pool update, Moorman said that all three slides are up and the metal roofs are on the
buildings. The masonry work is almost done, and footings are in for all the shade structures.
Crews will be working on pool decking within the next 2 weeks.
In other business, pending permit approval with the DNR, a bid was accepted for the archery
range project from Hopf Construction. Buffalo Trace will also be updating some equipment, as
the board granted permission to solicit golf cart quotes. Some of the current inventory is not
performing well and is due for replacement.
