Jasper Man Found Guilty in 2021 Child Molesting Case

Jasper- A Dubois County Circuit Court Jury found Joshua T. Govea guilty of Child Molesting and Public Voyeurism last Thursday.

In a release from the Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office, Govea was arrested in May of 2021 after an unidentified victim came forward to school personnel about an incident that had occurred at a Jasper Apartment. The victim said Govea touched them inappropriately and they believed he had photographed them while they slept.

Detective Greg Brescher with the Jasper Police Department led the investigation and arrested Govia on May 4th, 2021.

The trial began on Monday, May 22nd with Jury selection. Evidence was presented the following Tuesday and Wednesday and final arguments were made on Thursday.

The Jury deliberated for less than an hour and found Govea guilty on all counts; Level 1 Felony Child Molesting, Level 4 Felony Child Molesting, Class A Misdemeanor Voyeurism.

Deputy Prosecutor Brian Lucchi commented, “it took many people and entities, working together, to bring Mr. Govea to justice, including Detective (Greg) Brescher, school personnel, and the Southwestern Indiana Child Advocacy Center Coalition. But above all, it took an unflinching young (victim) who chose to go through the ordeal of testifying at a jury trial, rather than allow Mr. Govea to get away with what he had done.”

Dubois County Circuit Judge Nathan Verkamp ordered Govea to be held at the Dubois County Security Center until the Sentencing Hearing at 1:00 PM on June 23rd.

Govea faces 20-40 years in Prison.
