Jasper Man Arrested on Three Counts after Domestic Violence at Restaurant
Jasper - On Saturday, Jasper Police Officers were dispatched to McAlister’s Deli, in reference to possible child abuse that occurred inside the store. Upon officer’s arrival, it was determined that the suspect and juvenile victim had left the scene.
The suspect was located at his residence in Loogootee, after a phone ping and state dispatch were done by JPD dispatch. The victim and the victim’s juvenile sister were determined to be the foster children of Burgess and his significant other.
After a review of McAlister’s video footage, it was determined that the suspect, Burgess, had choked the five year old victim inside the store as “discipline”, along with slapping the juvenile across the face. Burgess then drug the juvenile by his arm to exit the store before fleeing in a vehicle.
Burgess was interviewed at JPD and subsequently arrested on two felony counts of Domestic Battery and a single felony count of Strangulation.
The victim and the victim’s juvenile sister were removed from the custody of Burgess by the Department of Child Services.
