Jasper Man Arrested on Domestic Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Seven Total Charges, in Monday Altercation

Jasper - A Jasper man was arrested on five felonies, seven total charges after a Monday morning altercation.


At approximately 10:00 a.m., Jasper Police responded to a report of an altercation involving a knife. On the scene, officers located the victim and suspect, identified as Ruben Cruz, 33 of Jasper.

Upon investigation, police determined that Cruz had battered his domestic partner. During the altercation, Cruz allegedly choked and held a knife to the victim's throat. According to police, he also struck the victim in the face.

During the altercation, Cruz allegedly took the victim's phone, preventing the victim from calling police. There was an active protection order in place protecting the victim from the suspect.

The victim sustained injuries but declined Emergency Medical Care.

Cruz was arrested and charged with five felonies - Domestic Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Domestic Battery Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury, Domestic Battery with Prior Conviction, Felony Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, and Strangulation.

Cruz was charged with Misdemeanor counts of Invasion of Privacy and Interference with the Reporting of a Crime.
