Jasper Man Arrested on Five Counts for OWI, Leaving the Scene of an Accident

Jasper - A Jasper man was arrested Thursday afternoon on five counts for striking a parked car while driving drunk.


On Thursday at 3:41 p.m., the Jasper Police Department reported multiple calls about a gold Ford Escape striking a parked vehicle on Rumbach Avenue before pulling away. Near the scene, a witness told officers that Darin Elkins, 51, of Jasper, had pulled into a garage on Rumbach Avenue.

Jasper Police located Elkins and his vehicle at the residence. Officers determined that Elkins was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Elkins later tested at a blood-alcohol-content level of 0.15%.

Elkins has been charged with felony charges of OWI With a BAC of .15 or Higher and OWI With Prior Conviction; he was also charged on misdemeanor counts of OWI, OWI Endangerment, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

Elkins was taken to the Dubois County Security Center.
