Jasper Man Accused of Embezzling Nearly $100,000 From Knox County Nonprofit Group

KNOX COUNTY -- A Jasper man has been charged with theft following an investigation into missing funds from a Knox County nonprofit group.
Inside Indiana Business reports 65-year-old Mark Schmitt is accused of stealing around $98,000 from ATTIC Incorporated where he worked as an assistant director and accountant.
He’s accused of putting that money into his personal account between May and October of last year.
The group receives federal funding to help disabled community members.
Schmitt is charged with felony theft. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
