Indiana State Police Release Names, Provide Update on Fatal Thursday Morning Crash

Dubois Co. - The Indiana State Police have issued an update on this morning's fatal Dubois County crash.

The update from Sergeant Lambert reads:

"Troopers with the Indiana State Police, Dubois County Sheriff's Office, and numerous first responders from various fire departments have concluded their efforts at the crash scene. 

"The Dubois County Coroner's Office has authorized the release of the deceased names. Julie Schnell, 44 (mother) and Alayna Schnell, 13 (daughter) both passed away today from injuries sustained following an automobile accident. Again, Next of Kin notifications have been made. 

"Addison Schnell, 15 (daughter), is in “Critical Condition” at Norton Hospital in Louisville. William Craney, 27 (tanker driver), was taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville and was in stable condition earlier today. ISP Detective & Accident Reconstructionist Josh Greer reiterated to me [Sgt. Lambert] today that he will need more time to process the numerous items of evidentiary value that were collected from the accident scene. Those items include pictures, videos, statements, and measurements, to list a few. Detective Greer’s findings will be made available at the conclusion of his investigation. 

"Detective Greer was assisted in his investigation by the following Indiana State Troopers: Lt. Allen, Jasper District Commander Sgt. Werne, Investigative Squad Leader M/Trp. Lubber- CMV (tanker inspection) M/Trp. Quakenbush- CMV (tanker inspection) Trp. Watson- UAS Operator Trp. Matthew-Detective S/Trp. Smith- Special Operations EOD Towing Agencies- Sternberg & Tri-State.

Schnell, 44, was a teacher at Jasper High School. Alayna, 13, attended Holy Trinity School.

"Earlier this morning, the Indiana State Police & Dubois County Sheriff's Department responded to State Road 64 near Pine Ridge Road in Dubois County for a two-vehicle fatal crash. ISP Crash Reconstructionist & Commercial Vehicle Inspectors are on scene to determine the cause of the crash. More will be released on this when it becomes available. Two people inside the passenger vehicle died on scene due to their injuries from the impact. Another occupant of the passenger vehicle was taken to Nortons Hospital in Louisville and is listed in “Critical Condition.” The tanker truck driver was taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville and is listed in “Stable Condition.” Impairment is not believed to be a factor. Death Notifications have been made. The identity of those deceased will be made available as soon as practical. I will post another update this afternoon when I have more information for you.
