Washington- Indiana Senator and Dubois County native Mike Braun proposed a new bill to Congress.
Braun, along with Senators Kirsten Gillibrand, Lisa Murkowski, Kevin Cramer and Roger Wicker proposed the Promising Pathways Act (PPA) Thursday. The act, according to Senator Braun, would help patients with life-threatening diseases, like ALS.
“The Promising Pathways Act would allow patients with serious, life-threatening diseases, terminal illnesses to access drugs and medications that have cleared key safety stages in the FDA,” Senator Braun said in a video on his YouTube page.
The bi-partisan act would allow patients with usually terminal diseases, like ALS, to receive treatment while the FDA continues their research.
“We have the ability to reform FDA pathways and treatments to life saving drugs for those suffering the worst medical diagnoses,” Braun said, “We should do so without delay.”
The Promising Pathway Act would also open up the door to provisional approval for treating other terminal diseases with limited to no current treatment options, say lawmakers.
Treatments eligible for provisional approval under PPA must have substantial evidence of safety and early evidence of positive therapeutic outcomes.
