Indiana's Primary Will Go on as Planned June 2nd, Requests Surge For Absentee Ballots

STATEWIDE -- Indiana election officials have announced the June 2nd Indiana Primary will go on as planned, but poll workers will take extra precautions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The announcement was made Thursday afternoon by Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson.  

If you want to vote by absentee ballot, you must contact your county clerk's office or visit indianavoters.com.  The deadline to request an absentee ballot is May 21st.  As of Thursday morning, 70,400 Hoosiers have requested an absentee ballot.

In-person early voting will take place between May 26th - June 1st.  Local details will be released.

 In late march, Indiana governor Eric Holcomb signed an executive order to move the state's Primary Election from May 5th to June 2nd and take steps to ensure that all Hoosiers have the option to vote by mail.

“The right of citizens to elect their leaders in a free and open election is one of the cornerstones of America,” said Holcomb when signing the original executive order. “In order to balance that right with the safety of county employees, poll workers and voters, delaying Indiana’s primary election is the right move as we continue to do all we can to protect Hoosiers’ health.”
