Huntingburg Morning Accident Update

On March 6, 2025 at 3:40 a.m, Officers with the Huntingburg Police Department were dispatched to a single vehicle accident on W 6 th  St near the intersection of 400 W. Officers arrived on scene at 3:43 a.m, and observed one small horse already deceased, and a much larger horse that was incapacitated, but still moving. They also observed a green pickup truck with heavy damage to the front end of the vehicle. The driver of the pickup truck declined EMS, but reported pain in his hands, shoulders, and face. The driver had multiple small cuts on his hands from the windshield shattering on impact. Due to the extensive injuries the larger horse sustained during the accident, it was dispatched.       

At this point, W 6 th  St was shut down from the intersection of 400 W to Veteran’s Pkwy. Another driver reported a herd of horses running around just west of the incident location. Deputies with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene to assist with locating the other horses, as well as keeping the roadway closed down. The owner of the horses was notified of the situation. Only one horse was located during the incident, but four more were located near the intersection of W 6 th  St and 400 W nearly two hours after the incident's conclusion.       

Sternbergs towed the vehicle from the scene. INDOT took possession of the deceased horses. The Huntingburg Fire Department cleared the roadway of debris.
