Huntingburg Mayor’s Youth Council Community Garden Update
A representative from the Huntingburg Mayor’s Youth Council provided an update on the
Community Garden on the other side of Hunter’s Crossing. They have eight beds right now, and
will be talking to the FFA to get some rebar and start laying bricks soon. Tool donations have
been sparse, so students are primarily using tools borrowed from their own homes. They are in
particular need of shovels, hammers, mallets, and a wheelbarrow. If anyone has tools or
supplies to donate to the Youth Council, you can contact the Mayor’s office for more
information. You can also email the Huntingburg Mayor’s Youth Council President
at [email protected].
The Youth Council is also looking for volunteers to contribute some labor to the Community
Garden project, as they plan to be working at the location each Sunday afternoon. An update
on community involvement revealed that there have only been two volunteers so far. They
hope that more outreach will bring donations and volunteers to help them reach their goal. For
now, there is no firm opening date for the project.
At the close of the meeting, there was a special mention that events surrounding the solar
eclipse went very smoothly, with locals and visitors from out of state all coming together for
this extraordinary occasion. Countless hours went into planning, and the Council noted that
everyone’s hard work was much appreciated and contributed to the successes of this weekend.
