Huntingburg Couple Arrested on Numerous Drug Dealing Charges

Huntingburg – On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, Narcotics Detectives with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Huntingburg couple on multiple charges, including dealing in methamphetamine as a Level 2 felony. 

Within the last several weeks, Narcotics Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office received complaints of possible illegal drug activity at a Huntingburg residence. On May 26, 2021, the Sheriff’s Office and the Huntingburg Police Department visited the home to investigate the complaint, and conduct a welfare check on a possible resident.  Upon arrival, police spoke to a female at the residence, identified as April Blackwood. While detectives were speaking with Blackwood, they found probable cause to obtain a search warrant of the above-mentioned residence.

During the investigation, William Blackwood, who was not present at the home when officers arrived, returned home. Both Mr. and Mrs. Blackwood remained in the home seated during the investigation.  A search of the property by detectives found approximately 10.5 grams of methamphetamine, a sheet of LSD, approximately 78.4 grams of marijuana, narcotic medications without a valid prescription, along with numerous items of drug paraphernalia.

Dubois County Sheriff Tom Kleinhelter thanked the public for their vigilance at the time of the arrest.  “I want to express my appreciation to the individual or individuals that made the crime tips that led to these arrests. It is always helpful for the public to let law enforcement know of suspected drug activity.  It helps us as we work to eliminate these harmful and dangerous substances from our community,” said Kleinhelter.

Both William and April Blackwood were arrested following the search of the property and charged with the following:

WILLIAM BLACKWOOD

1.       Dealing in Methamphetamine-Amount of 10 or more grams (LEVEL 2 FELONY)

2.          Possession of Methamphetamine between 10 & 28 grams (LEVEL 4 FELONY)

3.          Dealing in Marijuana w/prior drug offense conviction (LEVEL 6 FELONY)

4.          Possession of Marijuana w/prior drug offense conviction (LEVEL 6 FELONY)

5.          Dealing in a Schedule I Controlled Substance (LEVEL 6 FELONY)

6.          Maintaining a Common Nuisance-Controlled Substance (LEVEL 6 FELONY)

7.          Possession of a Controlled Substance (CLASS A MISDEMEANOR)

8.          Possession of a Controlled Substance (CLASS A MISDEMEANOR)

9.          Possession of Paraphernalia – Prior conviction (CLASS A MISDEMEANOR)

APRIL BLACKWOOD

1.          Dealing in Methamphetamine-Amount of 10 or more grams (LEVEL 2 FELONY)
