Heritage Hills Marching Patriots Make History with ISSMA State Championship Win

On November 9, the Heritage Hills Marching Patriots will appear at the 51 st annual ISSMA Marching Band State Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. They will perform their show, “Siren’s Song,” in exhibition, having already been named ISSMA Scholastic Class B State Champions earlier this month.

On October 19, Heritage Hills competed in the ISSMA Scholastic Open Class B State Championship, hosted by Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis. The Marching Patriots appeared alongside other qualifying ensembles including the Northeast Dubois Marching Jeeps and Pike Central’s Charger Brigade. Their offering includes musical selections “Aquarium,” “I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight,” and “The Wellerman.” Helmed by husband and wife team, Keith Dossett, Director of Bands, and Katie Dossett, Guard Director, the 52-member ensemble turned in a spectacular performance.

The first-place win was a major milestone for Heritage Hills, securing the school’s first-ever Marching Band State Championship Title. When asked about the reasons behind the group’s great success this season, Mr. Dossett credited the talent and hard work of his wife and the students themselves. Dossett said, “It just really comes to…I try to give quality instruction, and these kids have really just bought into rebuilding and these kids have bought into wanting to get better.” The community has rallied behind the Marching Patriots as well, even leading the victors in a procession through town upon their return. Dossett reflected, “It’s been such hard work to get here, and the excitement of winning that state championship, it still doesn’t quite feel real. It’s been awesome to see the community come together and the support that band kids have gotten from their peers and that we’ve gotten from the community and school administration.”

On November 9, the Marching Patriots will present their show at Lucas Oil Stadium as the 40 bands who were selected to advance to the 51st ISSMA State Finals compete for a championship title.
