Harrison County Deputy Accused of Identity Deception
Floyd Co.- An investigation that stemmed from accusations of misconduct in the New Albany Police Department has led to the arrest of a Harrison County Deputy.
In May of this year, several public service offices and two news stations in Kentucky received an email from a New Albany Police Officer claiming officer misconduct within the police department. The claim also stated the incidents had been reported but to no avail.
An investigation into the accusations was launched by the Floyd County Prosecutors Office and the Indiana State Police- Sellersburg District. ISP Detective Mike Bennett spoke with New Albany officer who allegedly sent the email, but the officer had no knowledge of the email.
Following the course of the misconduct investigation, a second investigation in to possible Identity Deception was launched. Findings in that investigation were then turned over to the Floyd County Prosecutor’s office and a warrant was issued for the arrest of Ralph M. Weaver, 37 of Lanesville.
Weaver was a former officer with the New Albany Police Department and currently works for the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.
He would turn himself in.
He currently faces charges of:
- False Identifying
- Obstruction of Justice
The accusations contained in the email were found to have been reported before and had been addressed by New Albany PD, ISP, and the County Prosecutor’s Office.
