Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools Prepares to Welcome Students

Staff preparation and student achievement topped the agenda at the last school board meeting before the first day of school for Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools.

The board was provided a curriculum update, including the ILEARN assessment results for 2024. In addition, they were given an overview of summer 23-24 Advance Placement testing, transportation services, staff preparedness, and reappointments. In other business, the agreement with the City of Jasper for School Resource Officers Fiscal Year 25 budget was approved. Authorization was also given to publish the CPF and Bus Replacement Plan on the GJCS website.

The board granted permission to advertise a public hearing for an increase to the approved appropriations in the Education Fund as well as an additional appropriation. In preparation for the coming academic year, updates to the NEOLA policy and the Support Staff Handbook were both adopted. The Joint Services Agreement with the Dubois Spencer Perry Pike Exceptional Children’s Cooperative was also approved.

The Dubois County GOP will be using the Cabby Gym on Saturday, October 5 th for the DCGOP Hometown Heroes Rally Announcements. The board did due diligence, giving updates on fiscal responsibility, including two projects that have gone slightly over budget, the resurfacing of the track and the tennis courts. Despite some surprise expenses, the projects are expected to be finished within the month of August. There was a palpable excitement within the room to get students and staff back on campus for what is expected to be another great school year. Calendar reminders included the first day of school for all staff on Monday, August 5 th , and the first day for students on Wednesday, August 7 th . Registration for the 24-25 school year is now open.
