GJCS Lauds Success of Little Wildcats Childcare
Monday night’s meeting of the Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools confirmed staffing and
calendar adjustments before providing an update on its Little Wildcats childcare program.
A number of resignations and staff recommendations headed the agenda for the September
Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools board meeting. Hiring approvals were granted for several
Instructional Assistants at Jasper and Ireland Elementary Schools. New hires for Jasper Middle
School include an ELA Department Head, Yearbook Advisor, and Assistant Girls Basketball
Coach.
The board authorized the addition of multiple field trips to the school calendar, beginning with
class visits for Jasper and Ireland Elementary kindergarten students to Reid’s Orchard in
Owensboro. The Jasper High School FFA will be attending the State Soils Judging Contest, the
National FFA Convention, FIRE Camp, and a number of other exciting events. Jasper High
School’s AP Psychology Class trip to the Museum of Illusions in St. Louis was also approved, and
JHS Performing Arts will visit the Derby Dinner Theater in Louisville.
Leading the night off in the Wildcat Spotlight and the Program Director for the Little Wildcats
childcare program. The board received a comprehensive update on the program, with
Superintendent Dr. Lorey calling it “a win-win-win.” Dr. Lorey noted that the program’s
substantial benefits to the children, the school corporation, and the community at large are
significant and growing each day.
In other business, the board heard a 2025 Budget update. Also heard was an update on the
Building and Maintenance projects, including the authorization for development of
construction bid documents for the JMS and JHS kitchen improvement projects. A bus route
addendum for bus 17 and School Improvement Plans also received approval. The board’s next
meeting will be held Monday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the Jasper High School Community
Room.
