Jasper- Monday’s Greater Jasper School Board meeting featured a proposed memorial.
Carma Thimling was a teacher for 31 years at the former 10th Street Elementary. She retired in 2019 to help her mother who was battling illness. In July 2022, Thimling unexpectedly passed at 58 years old.
Thimling was an alumnus of Jasper High School, graduating from the high school in 1982. She would go on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at the University of Southern Indiana and then her Masters at Indiana State.
Teachers from Jasper Elementary School made their proposal for a memorial stone to be placed near the former 10th Street Elementary lot.
“We are requesting to place a memorial stone in Carma’s honor, in the place where 10th Street Elementary once stood,” Said Lisa Guthrie.
Guthrie said Thimling’s family fully backed the proposal for the memorial.
After motions by school board members Arlet Jackle and Ken Schnaus, the board unanimously approved the request to move forward with the purchase and the installation. A cost was not disclosed.
