Four-Vehicle Sends Driver to Hospital, Temporarily Closes Stretch of I-64

Perry Co. - A four-vehicle collision saw one driver extricated from the car and sent to an area hospital on Wednesday.

At approximately 7:03 a.m., Central Dispatch received information of a serious vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 64 near the 68-mile marker in Perry County.

The Perry Sherriff's Department learned two tractor trailers were stationary in the left-hand lane in westbound lane on I-64 when a passenger car was coming to a stop behind the stopped tractor trailers. As the passenger car came to stop, a 2002 Chevy 2500 truck hauling a gooseneck trailer containing livestock failed to stop and struck the rear of the passenger car, pushing it into the rear of a stationary semi.

After striking the first tractor trailer, the force of the crash then pushed the tractor trailer into another stationary tractor trailer in front of it, resulting in minor damage.

From this accident, one female had to be extricated from the passenger car and was transported to an area hospital for injuries sustained from the accident.

According to the information we received, both West bound lanes of I-64 westbound were slowed and stopped due to a preexisting traffic accident near the 65.5-mile marker in Dubois County.

Also assisting the Perry County Sheriff’s Office was the Indiana State Police, Perry County EMS, Perry County Rescue, Dubois County EMS, Ferdinand FD, Saint Meinrad FD and the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Valley Towing and Small Brothers Towing.
