Forest Park Students Qualify for National Leadership Conference in Chicago
As temperatures outside plummeted, a palpable excitement pervaded the Southeast Dubois
School Board meeting surrounding community support and student achievement. The board
accepted a number of donations, including those specifically earmarked for the Future Farmers
of America and Business Professionals of America. BPA donations were accepted by the board
to support students at the National Leadership Conference in Chicago, where a handful of local
students have earned the right to attend with advisor Angie Hochgesang. Other significant
community donations were also accepted, including a contribution from the Dubois County
Treasurer to install stop arm cameras on school buses. Proceeds from ticket infractions
identified with these cameras will be reinvested into the fund to subsidize the purchase of
additional stop arm cameras, and the board reiterated their commitment to student safety.
Adding to the positive atmosphere was the success of the Cedar Crest Robotics Team at the
State Competition. The board applauded their achievement and thanked the community for
their support, not only through donations, but also through the efforts of the Ferdinand and
Birdseye Libraries and their attention to SED students and staff. With their eyes on the future,
the board focused on improving the learning environment for students and developing a
protocol to fully background check all volunteers in Forest Park. In other business, the board
approved a number of resignations and new hires, a bus addendum, and substantial
construction projects in the works that include upcoming track improvements as well as lighting
and field upgrades.
Southeast Dubois County School Corporation meetings are public and held on the first
Wednesday of each month from 6:30-7:30 pm.
