Forest Management Tour at Ferdinand State Forest
Ferdinand - The Four Rivers Forestry Committee is sponsoring a forest management tour at
Ferdinand State Forest on Thursday, April 21.
Join Jamie Winner, Ferdinand State
Forest Property Manager for a guided walk through areas managed using
different strategies, including fire. The tour will begin at 6 PM EDT and conclude
at dusk.
The tour will begin at a harvest log yard located 1.3 miles from the Forest
entrance.
Follow the main forest road for 1 mile, then turn left, following the sign
to the campground. The log yard will be 0.3 miles up the road on the left.
Division of Forestry personnel will be present on site to assist with parking.
Winner will guide attendees through portions of a 62 acre burn area, and through
areas managed through harvests. Forest staff will be available to answer
questions about the burn, and their management strategies. Indiana’s State
Forest properties are managed under the policy of multiple use in order to obtain
benefits from recreation, timber production, and watershed protection. They are
open to the public for hunting during the season and are actively managed for
healthy fish and wildlife populations.
Recreational development does not take
precedence over natural resource conservation and protection.
Registration is not required; however, you may call the Ferdinand State Forest
office with questions: (812) 827-2857. The Forest Management Tour is sponsored
by the Four Rivers Forestry Committee.
The Four Rivers Forestry Committee
members are individuals: forest owners, government employees, forestry and
wildlife management professionals, consultant foresters; all working together to
improve our forest resources.
