Ferdinand Community Center Cuts Ribbon on Mobel Room Addition

Ferdinand
- Friday evening, the Dubois County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Ferdinand Community Center for the rededication of the Mobel Room addition.

Ferdinand Community Center Board President Lee Begle, Mobel Foundation Representatives and the Art Ruhe Family, Ferdinand Town Council President Ken Sicard, town representatives, and members of the public were in attendance for the ceremony.

Initially opening in 1989, the Ferdinand Community Center had plans drawn up for a room addition for about 20 years. Ferdinand Community Center Board President Lee Begle said that he was glad to see the plans come to fruition, but, was also impressed with how quickly work was completed.

"The guys at Seufert [Construction] just did a fantastic job because we sat down with them and told them, 'We really need to have this expansion done, but we need it done quick,'" Begle said. "We tipped off a number of brides because we needed to shut this place down. But if you think - in less than six months this project was complete, you don't see that too often."

The Board worked with a total of 14 contractors. Possibly more impressive than the construction, has been the amount of interest in the addition.

"Probably since we opened this back up," Begle said. "Within the month, we've probably had this rented about 12 times."

The Mobel Room at the Ferdinand Community Center is available for rental for $250 for members and for $350 for non-members.

Ferdinand Town Council President Ken Sicard sees the new addition to the Community Center as a sign of growth in the area.

"The area, centered around the Community Center, has truly become the heart of Ferdinand," Sicard said. "It's a place where we can keep our bodies in shape, 18th Street Park and the Y, we can deepen our knowledge by going to the library, and we can continue to have a place for our families and community to meet here at the Community Center."
