Ferdinand Library Announces May Events and Programs

Ferdinand - The Ferdinand Library has announced its full slate of events for the month of May.


Note: The Ferdinand Library will be closed on Monday, 5/30 for Memorial Day. 

Kids Canvas Painting
 – 5/2 3:30 PM or 6PM  Paint the planets in space.  *Registration required. 

Star Wars Day
– 5/4 May the 4th be with you! Stop by to get some Star Wars stickers, etc. 

Stories For Littles/Family Storytime:
  (Thursdays, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19, 5/16 at 10AM)  Enjoy stories, songs & crafts. 

Afternoon Book Club
 – 5/5 2PM All are welcome. Contact Library for more information. 

Dino Dig Activity
– 5/9 3:30 & 6PM  Each child will get to excavate a clay dinosaur egg to reveal the ‘dino bones’ inside.  The participants will then identify their dinosaur and make it come to life using Sculpey clay.  Registration required at www.jdcpl.us 

Basement Book Sale
– The Friends of the Ferdinand Library Book Sale will be Saturday, May 14th from 10-1PM. Enter the Library as normal or the outside entrance by the Ferdinand Community Center. Paperbacks sell for fifty cents and most hardbacks sell for one dollar. There are other treasures like puzzles available as well. 

Pokemon Club 
– 5/14  2PM  Come and enjoy all things Pokemon! All ages welcome, children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult please. 

Butterfly Bottle Craft
  – 5/19 Adults or Teens can decorate a bottle with butterflies, sayings, etc. free of charge.  Registration required at www.jdcpl.us 

Art Time for Littles
– 5/24 10AM  Children 5 and under are invited to this creative experience using library art supplies. No registration necessary. 

Evening Book Club
 –5/25  6:30PM All are welcome. Contact Library for more information. 

Cast Iron Cooking Demonstration
  –  5/26 6PM  Adam Wagner will be sharing how to cook with cast iron. Registration required at www.jdcpl.us 

Baseball
– Come into the Ferdinand Library during the month of May and check out a baseball-related book or movie. Then enter for a chance to win tickets to a Dubois County Bombers Baseball game. 

Library Newsletter
 – Sign up for the Jasper Dubois Contractual Public Library monthly newsletter at www.jdcpl.us/subscribe 

Creation Station 
– Come in to our newly remodeled Programming Room and make a word collage or use the magnetic poetry.  There are also various ‘arts and crafts’ supplies available for Adults/Teens to create with. 

1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program
 – Participate in our new Early-Youth Reading Program, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten! Hundreds of libraries across the nation are using this program to promote reading & literacy to newborns, infants, and toddlers.  The program will be taking place exclusively on the Beanstack app. To see how to participate, visit https://jdcpl.us/1000-books-reading-challenge/


Summer Reading Program
 – The Library’s Summer Reading Program begins on May 31. Sign up on the Beanstack App! Watch for more details to the theme, “Read Beyond The Beaten Path’! 

Library Of Things
– The Ferdinand Library has a variety of ‘Things’ that are free to checkout with a valid library card. They include: an acoustic guitar, portable cornhole game, badminton sets, tumbling blocks, a sewing machine, a loom, a microscope, ukuleles, dulcimers, a paper crafting kit, a drill, a laminator, kalimba, singing bowls, wooden musical spoons, free tickets to the Dubois County Museum, a c.d. player, etc.  Search ‘library of things’ on the catalog at www.jdcpl.us to see a list of all items available. 

Where’s Waldo At The Library
 – During the month of May, there will be a ‘Where’s Waldo?’ Scavenger Hunt at the Ferdinand Library. Come play along and receive a prize! 

Kindness Rocks 
– Ferdinand Library has ‘Kindness Rocks’ in the Lobby intended to promote goodwill to unsuspecting recipients. The inspirational rocks are intended for sharing and pictures of them can be posted on Facebook. Come get a rock or paint/decoupage a rock & drop it off. Learn more at

The Ferdinand Library’s hours are Monday thru Thursday, 9am-8pm (EST) and Friday thru Saturday, 9am-5pm (EST).
